Where it all began:

We first established Mucky Munchkins Childcare Ltd in 2014 when we became childminders. We co-worked as childminders from Jennifer’s home in Daisy Hill.

Prior to becoming childminders, we both worked together for over 12 years in the legal profession. We decided during our second pregnancies it was time for a change in career.

During 2013, whilst working full time, heavily pregnant and looking after our first born children, we decided to train as childminders.

We officially became childminders in December 2013. We didn’t start working as childminders straight away as we had just had our second babies. We therefore opened the doors in April 2014 after a very short maternity leave.

We had our first OFSTED grading after 8 weeks of opening as childminders when we were awarded with a GOOD in all areas.

The OFSTED Inspector was very impressed with what we had achieved in the short space we had been open and could see a bright future for Mucky Munchkins Childcare.

It has always been our vision to expand and open our very own nursery. As we have children ourselves, we were aware of what we wanted and didn’t want for a childcare service. We therefore wished, and still do, to put our own experiences into practice and provide parents with good quality childcare.

After 6 months of becoming childminders, as we had received such a high demand for our services in the area, we decided the time was right to start the search for premises. For just short of 2 years we had been endlessly searching for the right premises to expand our childcare business.

At the beginning of 2016, after exhausting all avenues to find the right place in the local area, we were approached with the perfect premises. These premises were not even on the market. It was definitely meant to be. The premises were The Old Scout Hut.

We went to see the premises and although it needed extensive renovations and a lot of hard work, we felt it was perfect for us!

We were inspected in January 2018 by Ofsted, some 11 months after opening, and achieved GOOD. Please see link for the report.

We currently offer care for 41 children a day.

We have 3 rooms:

Rainbows – 3-5 years

Little Stars – 2-3 years

Tiny Stars – 0-2 years

We will also be offering Forest School Sessions in the very near future. Jen and Clare are currently completing their Level 3 Qualification and are in the process of pilot sessions with Rainbows children.
